HEMMINGS MOTOR NEWS IN THE 1960s...

Read 'em and weep... These gems were spotted in some old issues of Hemmings Motor News, under the "Non-Ford" category.  Apparently, back in the early days of this hobby, there must have been a lot more interest in old Fords than anything else, as almost half of the entire classified section was devoted exclusively to Fords!  Personally, these just make me cringe looking at the low prices, even in 1969 dollars.... Also of interest is the fact that a lot of the same cars from the 1950s that we cherish today, were recognized even then, as having significant collector appeal, even though they were just a little over 10 years old...

1938 Talbot Lago - only $6,000... This one has almost certainly been seen at Pebble Beach... Ouch.

1928 Renault... $2450... Where is this car today???

1934 or 1935 (?) Cadillac... $10,500... Not exactly cheap, even for 1969...

1936 Packard Super 8 @ $4,500... Not quite a giveaway...

A couple of 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertibles at only $150... Yikes!!! And on top of that a beautiful 1939 60 Special for only $350.  I don't find it comforting to know that "These cars are better than the low prices indicate"... In fact, quite the contrary.  Sniff, sniff...

When was the last time you saw a 1957 Chevrolet Nomad in this condition for $500???

For a little more money, you could have this 1956 Chrysler 300 B...

Or, for just a LITTLE more, you could have this 1941 Buick Roadmaster Phaeton for $975...

How cool is THIS?  Here is the Frank Cassello car known as the Fitzpatrick Special, which is currently owned by Chicago car collector Joe Bortz... Ironically, this same car is appearing at the 2005 World of Wheels Chicago Auto Show, in late January, 2005...

This 1941 Graham Hollywood could be had for a mere $2200...

This 1915 Ford Model T is wearing STEEL WHEELS... I've never seen these on a car like this... The asking price was not included in the original ad.

Hmmm... $1500 for a 1936 Cord Westchester Sedan... Or, is perhaps a Beverly?  No, I'm thinking the Beverly didn't come along until 1937.  Am I wrong?

Neat Buick, and how could you argue with the price... This appears to be a Special.
