I've been going to car shows since I was a
kid... Here are some pics from shows I attended with my dad, way back in
the '70s... Over time, it's turned into a lifelong obsession.... But,
these days, we have digital pics that don't fade... |

I'm pretty sure this is the first show I ever went
to.... This appears to be a Dean Jeffries car, I'm thinking it's the
"Manta Ray"... Click the thumbnail, and you'll see that the year was 1973.

I love
this photo of this crazy little fiberglass Volkswagen... It's all engine...
Where is this little toy today??? UPDATE:
06 DEC 2004 - From Rob Muirhead, I have been informed that this is
the "Zinger", built by Chuck Miller (Red Baron fame)... Thanks, Rob! |
Check out the pink fur in the interior... This seems
to be modeled on the "Jack Rabbit Special" Hotwheel... Or, perhaps, the Hotwheel
was based on this car... |
This is from the first auction I ever attended....
The year would have been around 1975... |
I'm guessing this pic was shot around '75... UPDATE - 06 DEC 2004 - From Rob Muirhead:
"That is the Red Foxx Lil Red Wrecker...was originally called The Turnpike Hauler and was
designed and built by Bob Resiner and Jay Ohrberg. Barris will tell you he
built it but he didn't." |
Well, this is certainly something that stands out in my
mind..... My first encounter with a Batmobile... This one was covered with
"Bat-Fuzz"... I also, DISTINCTLY, remember that this car had a PATHETIC
interior... |
Where is
this one today??? UPDATE - 06 DEC 2004 - From Rob Muirhead:
"That's Darryl Starbird's Startrek Coupe. It was originally the Futurista
but in true Starbird style he pulled it apart and turned it into this. Its
currently in his museum restored but it doesn't look like this." |
The
Coors Beer Can car... Crazy. Where is it now? |
Funny looking Trike....
These were big in the '70s... UPDATE: 06 DEC
2004 - Rob Muirhead writes: "That's the Trick Trike. It was built
by California Cycle (Semi Cycle)"... |
Outhouse
car... Remember how many concept rods were out there? This car has
TWO blowers... |
OK, here
we are around 1977...This Corvette got quite a hack job... |
Neat little truck...It's
probably been redone a couple of times since then... |
Typical '70s style
showrod... UPDATE: 06 DEC 2004 - Rob
Muirhead writes: "That's Suspended Animation. I'd have to check my records
to find out who built it."... |
This
purple kustom 1950 Mercury was owned by a
local guy named Gene Elgin... He
was WAY before his time.... Back in the '70s there weren't too many kustom Mercs
out there... |
Great '70s style show circuit rod... This is called "Sir
T". UPDATE: 06 DEC 2004 - Rob
Muirhead writes: "I find this interesting this thing was originally called
DDT but once that pesticide became known as BAD he quickly changed it.
I will also have to check my records for a builder." |
This was
snapped outside of a local body shop around '79, or maybe '80... This
appears to be a 1969 El Camino... |
This car was seen many times at local shows in the late
70s... It was an early 'Vette that had been extensively
customized.....It was called "The Sandblaster"... |
Another wild job... What the heck is it?
UPDATE: 06 DEC 2004 - Rob Muirhead writes: "Ok this is Darryl
Starbird's The Love American Style Machine. It was originally called The
Spoiler and it was a coupe. He pulled the front clip and built the
delivery back end." |
I
remember seeing this at a big World of Wheels event... Not sure what year...? |
I'm
thinking this car was in one of their "Annuals"... |
Typical
of the time.... |
Same show as the Yellow T....Check out the sick
looking mannequin... This is a very rare 1953 Nash Healey... |
Here's something I snapped at a local show... It's a
modified 'Vette, circa 1979... |
Ok, this
pic may be from around 1980... I can't be sure, except that the camera
seems to be better... This 1967 Camaro has probably
been repainted a couple of times since... |
