GEMS - DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH...

I've seen my share of unusual old cars while running around with my dad.  He has an uncanny ability to find weird, rare stuff.... Here are some odd cars that I've spotted over the last couple of years while I was tagging along with him.  It just goes to show that there are some great cars out there, just waiting for a little TLC... I don't think any of these are still for sale, except maybe the '48 Packard.

Like all 1942 models, this DeSoto Limo is one rare bird...
In 1948, this Packard Custom was top of the line...
This 1955 Chrysler 300 was originally the Fire Chief's car in a small town in S. Carolina... She still has the Fire Chief plate on the front.
The cool tri-color paint scheme on this 1956 Dodge Royal Lancer has long since faded...
You could go to a National Buick meet and not see one of these... It's a 1941 Buick Roadmaster Coupe.  Production for this body style was remarkable low, relative to the Super, Special, and Century models.
How many unrestored 1954 Buick Skylark convertibles are out there? Check out this example... The previous owner considered this his "parts car"... Luckily, it's in good hands now.
I've never seen old delivery vans at any car show... I would guess that these date from the late 1940's...
Here's a rare 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham... The photo here shows 25 years worth of dust, as the car had been in storage since the days of the Carter administration.
How 'bout a 1954 Ford convertible?  Unfortunately, this one has a broken frame...
Here's a solid 1949 Cadillac Coupe Deville... They only built about 2,150 of these.  I bought this one!  Click HERE for restoration photos...
Another rare GM hardtop.  This is a 1949 Buick Roadmaster Riviera...
Here are the Buick and Cadillac sitting side by side.  When was the last time you saw two of these parked together?
Here's a cute little 1936 Chevy Businessman's Coupe.  This car was headed for Colorado for a restoration, when this pic was snapped...
Another rare car, this one belongs to a friend of my dad's...  This is a 1959 Chevrolet Impala Convertible, with some rare options.  This car has some rare factory options, including a 348 and 4 speed stick...
Here's an odd find.  It's a 1970 Cadillac Del Cavellero found under a shed.  You may spot similar cars sold under the Del Caballero name plate.  This one appears to be a dealer installed package, and was not part of the Cadillac sanctioned program...
Here's a rare 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Seville, with several years worth of dust...
Here's an odd Cotner-Bevington bodied 1960 Oldsmobile, with the original curtains.  I just love that little building in the background.
How's this for rare?  When was the last time you saw an unrestored 1940 Hupmobile (aka Hupp) Skylark?  This car was actually based on left over dies for the 1936 & 1936 Cord 810 sedans, and fitted with a different front clip.  Unlike the Cord, this is rear wheel drive...
You don't see many of these anymore.  It's a 1954 Hudson Jet, resting in a big metal building...
You certainly won't see many dusty old Maserati Coupes these days... The owner has had this one for many years.
Here's a rare 1959 Mercury Station Wagon... I'd put this one in the "Rare, Rare, Rare" category, as I can't recall EVER seeing another wood trimmed wagon like this...
This is a 1957 Cadillac Series 75 8-passenger sedan.... It's basically a limousine, without the divider window.  I can't help but think of this car as the equivalent of an SUV for it's day, at least in terms of size...
Sharp little 1955 Pontiac Starchief hardtop... This one appears to be pretty solid.
How 'bout this great old Kustom?  I believe this one started out as a 1941 Dodge, or Plymouth.  This car was chopped in the early 1960's, and features a Lincoln Continental style rear window treatment.  It's still in the hands of the guy who built it 40 years ago... It also had a nailhead Buick motor, with lots of chrome accessories and finned valve covers.  I believe this car is also sitting on 1964 Pontiac GTO wheels...
